Embera Quera
We are a local indigenous community. Our roots are located on the banks of the Gatun Lake, near Panama Canal and our aim is to maintain our culture and provide continuity for our members who inherit the teachings of our ancestors. Our community's name is EMBERA QUERA, on January 17th 2007, an ancestral movement started, It sought the welfare of its residents so they can continue living in harmony with the "Mother Nature"
Despite the lack of schooling amoung adults in Embera, the people are happy, smiling and eager to teach and share their knowledge and traditions. Our beliefs and team spirit keep us hopefuly going forwards as to progress but keep our young interested and working in our community for the well being of our culture.
Being insolated from the rest of the populations of Panama and the dangers that are latent in the cities does not mean that we are free from the problems. Our daily task, such as taking the children to school and helping them to return home, is not easy. But this is part of our continuing role as a familiy that is struggling to survive over time, to maintain and pass on our cultural knowledge to future generations.
The dream of ensuring the continuity of our ethnic group is with carried out with work, effort and the knowledge that we have from former generation. But now it is totally different since the world is evolving every day. We know that we must move forward with the rhythm of the world, but this is not so easy.
Thanks to contributions we receive from people like you, who visit our community, we can be healthy, pleasant and happy without having to ask for more.
